How we research, what we refuse to publish, how we handle money, and how we correct ourselves when we get something wrong.
How this site makes money
SexInMalta is reader-supported and may earn commission from some links. No venue, operator, promoter, hotel or app has ever paid to appear on this site, and none can. Commercial relationships do not influence which places we recommend, how we rank them, or what we say about them. Where we think something is poor value, we say so.
How we research a guide
Every venue named on this site is a publicly, verifiably trading business with an address. We check them directly rather than compiling from other people's lists, because the lists are where the errors propagate. Malta's small venues change hands constantly — several bars named in guides from two years ago are gone — so where a venue's current status is uncertain we say so on the page rather than presenting a guess as a fact.
Prices are given as observed market ranges rather than fixed figures, and labelled indicative, because they move. Where we publish an estimate or an editorial judgement rather than a measured number — venue crowd ages, app pool sizes, seasonal composition — we label it as an estimate on the page. We do not dress a judgement up as data.
Every page carries a visible author and a visible last-updated date. If a claim on this site cannot be attributed to a person and a date, it should not be here.
What we refuse to publish
Escort listings
We do not list escorts or agencies. Verification is impossible at any useful standard from outside the market, advertisements routinely misrepresent who will actually arrive, and — the part that matters most — a market operating with no regulatory layer is one where nobody screens for coercion or trafficking. Malta is a destination country for both.
Claims about individual massage businesses
We do not publish assertions about which licensed massage businesses offer sexual services. The information is unreliable and changes constantly, and misidentifying a legitimate business does real harm to people doing legitimate work. We describe the sector honestly and stop there.
Anything behind a paywall of ours
No venue, promoter, hotel, event or dating app has paid to appear on this site, and none can. There is no rate card. If we thought a €70 private dance was poor value, we said so, and no commercial relationship changes that.
Invented authority signals
We do not publish follower counts, subscriber numbers or vague "industry expert" claims as credentials. Our author page carries checkable specifics and a real face. Every statistic we cite about our own work can be verified against the pages on this site.
Corrections
When we find that another Malta guide is circulating something false, we correct it on the relevant page with the reason — visible, not silently edited in. There are currently six such corrections live across this site:
- The Gżira red-light district. Testaferrata Street and Marsa's Albert Town are still described as active red-light areas. Redevelopment and enforcement ended both in the 2010s.
- Malta's LGBTQ+ legal position. Guides stating that same-sex couples lack equal protection predate marriage equality in 2017.
- Cannabis law. Malta legalised limited personal cannabis use in 2021 — the first EU country to do so. Most guides have not updated.
- When divorce became legal. Several gay travel guides say 2013. The referendum was May 2011 and the law took effect that October.
- Pembroke beach. Sources conflict on its status. It is Malta's established gay beach; no Maltese beach is officially sanctioned for nudity.
- Cancelled events. Hoopla Malta is listed as an annual fixture by guides that have not noted its indefinite cancellation.

Independence
SexInMalta is independent of every business it covers. We are not affiliated with any venue, operator, tourism body or agency in Malta. Where a page contains a commercial link, the page says so, and the recommendation would be identical without it.
